Former Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh expressed his optimism about Shubman Gill’s potential return to the 2023 World Cup match against Pakistan, set to take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on October 14.
Yuvraj, who serves as Gill’s mentor, shared a motivating anecdote with him, drawing parallels to his own remarkable journey during the 2011 World Cup while battling cancer.
Gill, who has greatly benefited from Yuvraj’s guidance throughout his international cricket career, unfortunately missed India’s initial two World Cup encounters against Australia and Afghanistan due to illness.
Although he is present in Ahmedabad, the uncertainty regarding his participation in the pivotal match against Pakistan lingers.
In a conversation with ANI, Yuvraj disclosed how he relayed his 2011 World Cup experience to Gill, emphasizing the need for swift recovery to rejoin the team. He empathized with Gill’s predicament, acknowledging the challenges of playing cricket while battling ailments like fever and dengue, which he himself has encountered.
Yuvraj Singh said, "I've solidly built Shubman Gill. I've told him that I've played matches dengue and the World Cup with cancer. Hopefully he'll be perfectly fine for the match against Pakistan". (ANI). pic.twitter.com/Q5KqGW9Mdv

Yuvraj remains hopeful that Gill’s fitness will enable him to take the field for the much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan clash.
It’s worth noting that Yuvraj Singh played a pivotal role in India’s triumphant 2011 World Cup campaign, earning the Player of the Tournament accolade for his impressive performance, amassing 362 runs and taking 15 wickets with his exceptional left-arm spin.
