With the West Indies and the USA hosting the 2024 T20 World Cup, Team India will be forced to carry a lot of travelling reserves. Here, we take a look at the list of three batters who could be travelling reserves in the Indian 2024 T20 WC squad.
Having a travelling reserve is helpful to the team. While the bowlers would aid the preparation of the side, the batters will be readily available as a backup if any injury issues.
1) Tilak Varma
Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh are the left-handed middle-order batters who could be in the 15-member squad for the World Cup. Tilak Varma is in decent form in IPL 2024. If either Shivam or Rinku have an injury issue, Tilak would be the like-to-like replacement. Although Tilak is still improving his power-hitting, against the spinners at No.4, he can be a useful batter.
2) Shreyas Iyer could be a reserve in the Indian T20 WC squad
Shreyas Iyer is one of the batters who could be travelling reserves in the Indian 2024 T20 WC squad. Iyer has not been in excellent form in the ongoing IPL 2024. Hence, he might not get a spot in the final squad. Nevertheless, when it comes to slow wickets, Iyer is a useful batter against the spinners. Hence, he might be included as a travelling reserve.
3) Shubman Gill
With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli likely to open, Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to be the reserve opener. Also, KL Rahul is doing well and he can also keep wickets. These factors would deny Shubman Gill a chance to be a part of the 15-member squad. Nevertheless, he is a quality cricketer and could be a backup in the team.
