Retirement is now being taken to extend the career in the T20 format. A few players, of course, take it keeping the future of the team in mind. We look at some of the names below:

1) Dwaine Pretorius

South Africa does not have an established all-rounder in the team right now. While Andile Phehlukwayo is available, it is not sure if he can do well in India. In this context, a player like Pretorius could have been influential for the Proteas. Based on his performances in the CPL, it is clear that his fitness is good and his form is also good. With him in the team, South Africa could have gone with different combinations in the World Cup.

2) Alex Hales

Alex Hales is one of the cricketers who could have played in the 2023 ODI World Cup if they did not retire in 2023. Considering the situation right now, Hales would have had an outside chance to be a part of the World Cup. Yes, he may not be a regular in the 50-over format but his experience in doing well in the powerplay would have been enough for the English side. Hence, he is also a part of this list.

3) Aaron Finch

Keeping the future of his team in mind, Aaron Finch moved aside from the Australian Team. Travis Head and David Warner were superb opening partners but the unfortunate injury to Travis has put the balance in disarray. Now, Mitchell Marsh has to come up the order, leaving a hole in the middle-order. If Finch was available, he could have come as the replacement and not much disturbance would have happened to the setup.
