Currently, there is a clear line between the red-ball and the white-ball formats. Soon, we could see a distinction between the two white-ball formats, as well. Here, we take a look at the list of three nations that could have three captains for three different formats soon.
Not many teams have had three different captains at the same time. However, this could be a reality soon. We talk about the teams for which this could happen.
1) India
After the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit Sharma will surely step aside from the T20I captaincy. As a Test skipper, he will be at the helm until the end of this WTC cycle. It is not sure what he would do with his ODI captaincy. Nevertheless, in the future, India does not have a single player who can captain the squad in all formats. For Bumrah, it could be a workload issue. Hence, the likes of KL Rahul and Pant could come into the picture.
2) New Zealand could have different captains for all formats soon
New Zealand is one of the nations that could have three captains for three different formats soon. Kane Williamson might not be the T20I captain for long. He is not the Test captain now. Hence, automatically, if a new option comes in place as the T20I skipper, the Kiwis will have 3 different captains.
3) England
Will Jos Buttler continue as the white-ball captain? It is not sure for the moment. Even if he steps aside, England will find it hard to find one player who can be the skipper for both the ODI and the T20I squad. Sam Curran could be a pick for the T20I job. Of course, Ben Stokes is the captain in Tests. Hence, England might have a different captain for each format soon.
