The Kiwis have a few seniors who might be replaced after the World Cup. In fact, the players themselves could retire in a bid to bag a good contract in any of the T20 leagues.

    1) Trent Boult

Trent Boult made a comeback just before the World Cup. Initially, the management decided to prefer players who had accepted the central contract. Boult was one of the few who did not accept it. Nevertheless, the player might focus more on the T20 leagues after the World Cup. He might be in the T20 Team and if his fitness allows, even in Tests. ODIs, at least, it is very doubtful if he would continue playing for the Kiwis.

    2) James Neesham

James Neesham is one of the New Zealand players who could consider retirement after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Neesham has not had a lot of opportunities in the tournament. This is despite him having one good game against Australia. That said, like Boult, Neesham might want to focus more on the T20 leagues. In this context, he could quit ODI cricket and be an option for various franchises across the globe.

    3) Tim Southee

Unlike the other two, it might be more about keeping his fitness for Southee. He is the skipper of the Test Team and must be available for it. There are other options available for ODIs and therefore, Southee is not that important. Considering his future for the side, the veteran could take a call and decide to retire from ODIs.
