After a lot of demand from the fans, Tri-series will make a return to international cricket in the next FTP cycle. The International Cricket Council organized the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League from 2020 to 2022, featuring 13 nations. All teams play eight three-match bilateral series, four home and four away, under this tournament.

The top eight teams qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, the ICC has decided to scrap this tournament after the ongoing one ends. ESPNCricinfo has reported that at least the following three ODI tri-series will take place in the new FTP cycle from 2023 to 2027.

    1. Pakistan vs South Africa vs New Zealand tri-series in Pakistan, 2025

International cricket has returned to Pakistan, with some of the top teams agreeing to send their full-strength teams to compete against the Men in Green. In 2025, just before the ICC Champions Trophy, South Africa and New Zealand will travel to Pakistan for a tri-series also featuring the home side.

Later in 2025, South Africa and New Zealand will board flights to Zimbabwe for another triangular series featuring Zimbabwe instead of Pakistan.

South Africa and New Zealand will start as the favorites to win this series, but with Zimbabwe having the home advantage, they could spring a surprise as well.

    3. Pakistan vs Sri Lanka vs TBC in Pakistan, 2026

In November 2026, Pakistan will host another triangular series. It will feature the Sri Lankan cricket team, the Pakistan cricket team and one more nation. Since Pakistan will host the tournament, it is unlikely that India will be a part of this series. Either Bangladesh or Afghanistan could be the third nation, while it can also be a good opportunity for teams like Zimbabwe, Ireland and Netherlands to compete in such a series.
