In the Indian Premier League, we are already seeing players becoming coaches soon after retirement. Here, we take a look at the list of three players in SA20 who could become coaches in IPL 2024.
The trend of becoming coaches in the IPL while being an active cricketer in the other leagues is catching up. We have already seen multiple examples and could witness a few more in the coming weeks.
1) Kieron Pollard (Already Confirmed as the Batting Coach of Mumbai Indians)
Kieron Pollard replaced Rashid Khan for the MI Cape Town Team in SA20 2024. He has been leading the side in this edition. However, it needs to be noted that even last season itself, Pollard was the batting coach of Mumbai Indians. That would continue in IPL 2024, as well. Hence, he is already a confirmed member of this list.
2) Imran Tahir is one of the SA20 cricketers who could become coaches in IPL 2024.
There were some reports that Imran Tahir is being considered as the spin bowling coach of KKR. Tahir is also close to CSK and Mumbai Indians (he played for MI Emirates in the past). Hence, it is not a surprise if the veteran spinner gets a gig in the IPL as a coach. Recently, he won the CPL as a captain and that has further elevated his position as a tactical mind.
3) David Wiese
David Wiese is one of the players in SA20 who could become coaches in IPL 2024. It is always good to have coaches who have sufficient experience as a player. Wiese may still be a player but the opportunities may not come in the IPL. That said, there could be some teams that might consider him as a coaching option, considering his experience. Therefore, he is also on this list.
