We might witness a lot of retirement decisions after the 2023 ODI World Cup. It is expected after a major event. However, in the current era, we can expect many cricketers under 30 to take this decision.

    1) Anrich Nortje

For Anrich Nortje, it was the second continuous ODI World Cup that he had to miss due to an injury. From a South African perspective, Nortje is needed for Tests and also T20Is. Hence, the ODIs may not be the preferred format for Nortje and the next big event is anyways only in 2025. To prioritize the longevity of his career, the South African speedster could decide to hang up his boots in this format.

    2) Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga is one of the players ruled out of the 2023 ODI World Cup who could retire from ODIs. Just a few months ago, Hasaranga announced his retirement from Tests. It won’t be a surprise if he does that with respect to ODIs, as well. Hasaranga is becoming injury-prone these days. The Sri Lankan all-rounder is highly rated in T20 cricket and is one of the most in-demand cricketers across the global T20 leagues. To ensure that this remains the same, he could step aside from this format.

    3) Reece Topley

The English speedster has not been able to finish tournaments in recent years. He started well in both IPL 2023 and 2023 ODI World Cup. However, due to injuries, he was ruled out from both of them. It appears that T20 cricket is the best possible solution for Topley in the future. He can work towards it. However, he might have to quit the ODIs. England would also not want to trust an injury-prone cricketer too much in ODIs. Hence, Topley is also on this list.
