    Sixes in Tests

Six-hitting in Tests is always on the rare subplots of the game. However, with the advent of T20 cricket, players are getting trained specifically for power-hitting and some of the all-format cricketers are also applying it in Tests. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three players who can hit 150 sixes in Test cricket by the end of their careers.

At the moment, Brendon McCullum holds the record for scoring the most sixes in Tests. The Kiwi scored 107 sixes in 101 games. He was a naturally aggressive cricketer and on most occasions, took the game to the opposition. While his record is surely going to be beaten in a couple of months, down the line, a few players would go past Bazz’s record with a handsome margin. We take a look at three such cricketers in this list.

Note: The stats are as of 18th June 2022.

    1) Ben Stokes – 99 sixes in 81 Tests

Ben Stokes already has 99 sixes in 81 Tests. The English skipper is likely to beat Brendon McCullum’s record in a few months or maybe, in the next game against New Zealand, as well. Incidentally, Stokes would do it under the tutelage of McCullum, who is currently the Head Coach of the England Test Team. Stokes is known for his big-hitting skills and having already got 99 sixes, it would be achievable for him to get to that number of 150 sixes. The player will also be personally looking at this record.

    2) Rishabh Pant – 44 sixes in 30 Tests

Rishabh Pant is one of the players who can hit 150 sixes in Test cricket. Pant is fairly new to the format but has already accounted for 44 sixes. As seen in the recent Tests at home, against spinners, irrespective of the situation, Pant goes for the big hits. Considering he is still young and his approach would not change, by the end of his career, Pant can attempt 150 sixes in Tests.

    3) Jonny Bairstow – 40 sixes in 85 Tests

Jonny Bairstow is also one of the players on this list. At the moment, he has got only 40 sixes in 85 Tests. However, in recent years, Bairstow has developed into a big hitter. As seen in the recent game against New Zealand, under McCullum, Bairstow is more dangerous. He is 32 years old and is one of the crucial batters in the Test team. If he plays a few more years and maintains the same approach during this period, he could get to that coveted number. However, a lot of things must go in his way for that to happen.
