T20 World Cup 2022 is just one week away. 16 teams will compete against each other to win the T20 World Cup. Australia, who are the defending champions, will play host to the mega event in 2022. The captains of all the 16 teams have been announced.
However, since the next edition of the T20 World Cup is two years away, some teams may think of changing their captains as well. A few senior players who are leading the team now might retire as well by 2024. So, here’s a list of the three players who could become the new captains of their T20I teams.
1. India – Hardik Pandya
KL Rahul is the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team right now, but many fans think that Hardik Pandya is a better T20 captain than him. Pandya won IPL 2022 with the Gujarat Titans when not many fans gave the team a chance to make it to the playoffs.
Hardik Pandya has also done well as India’s T20I skipper, and it should not be a surprise if he takes over the reins from Rohit Sharma in the near future.
2. South Africa – David Miller
South African skipper Temba Bavuma is struggling for form right now. A few fans have opined that Reeza Hendricks should open the innings for the Proteas if Bavuma’s poor form continues. While Bavuma can be a good skipper in ODIs, someone like David Miller could lead the Proteas in T20Is.
3. Australia – David Warner might become captain after T20 World Cup 2022
Australian captain Aaron Finch is struggling with his form as well. He has already retired from ODIs, and he could call it a day on his T20I career as well after the T20 World Cup. His opening partner David Warner will be a top contender to become the next T20I captain of the Australian side.
