Karun Nair has been in smashing form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The selectors could be forced to respond. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who could lose a spot if Karun Nair gets selected for the ODI side.
India does not have a slot for a middle-order batter on the ODI side. However, Karun is in quality form and he deserves an opportunity to cement his spot in the playing 11.
1) Shreyas Iyer
It will be unfair if that happens. However, in the direction that Indian cricket is going, it would not be a surprise if Shreyas Iyer fails to make the cut. India has to take some bold decisions and dropping Shreyas could be one of them. That said, it needs to be noted that Shreyas has been India’s best No.4 for a while and he also did well in the recent domestic matches.
2) Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Reddy is one of the players who could lose a spot if Karun Nair gets selected for the ODI side. There are reports that he could come in as Hardik Pandya’s backup and as an additional middle-order batter. However, there is a bleak chance of him making to the squad now. If there is going to be a backup middle-order batter, the slot is likely to go Karun’s way.
3) Sanju Samson could miss his spot if Karun Nair is in the ODI squad
If not as the backup keeper, Sanju Samson had merit as a backup middle-order batter. However, that may not happen now. Karun Nair is in superior form and Sanju had to miss the Vijay Hazare Trophy due to different reasons. Therefore, Sanju will miss out on his spot.
