One-year deals are common in the IPL. A franchise might like to try a player and might release him if the signing does not work out. However, usually, a team has a long-term perspective. Nevertheless, there are some occasions when a player could be picked even if he does not offer any long-term incentive.
1) IPL 2024 could be the last season for Mohammad Nabi – Mumbai Indians
Just when you think Nabi would not play an IPL season, he somehow finds a way. This time around, Mumbai Indians signed the veteran. However, it will be a shock if Nabi actually plays in IPL 2025. There are youngsters who are doing better than him and MI might actually use Nabi as a coach in the future.
2) Umesh Yadav – Gujarat Titans
Thanks to the Impact Player rule, phase-specialists such as Umesh Yadav are still getting opportunities in the IPL. One of the main reasons why Umesh Yadav earned such a massive bid at the recent auctions was this. That said, age is catching up on Umesh and it will not be a surprise if IPL 2024 could be his last. He will play for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024.
3) Shai Hope – Delhi Capitals
Shai Hope is one of the players who got picked in IPL 2024 Auctions but it could be their last season. It was a surprise when the Delhi Capitals picked up Shai Hope. The team already had Tristan Stubbs and Kumar Kushagra as the backup keepers. Hope has only recently started to do well in the shortest format. If he does not have a good IPL 2024, no other team could be interested in him in the future.
