The leaderboard starts after every team has played at least one match in the new season. The batter with the highest runs gets the Orange Cap, and it keeps changing as the season goes on. Same thing happens with the Purple Cap.

No player has won Purple Cap and Orange Cap in the same IPL season, but there have been three such players who have held the two caps at least once in their careers.
