Pakistan will host an ICC World Test Championship series against the England cricket team soon. For the first time since 2005, the English squad has reached Pakistan for a Test series. The two nations played a seven-match T20I series earlier this year, but a majority of the big names were missing from the English team in that series.
Now, Ben Stokes and co. have reached the nation with a full-strength squad, and they will look to win a historic Test series just like Australia did earlier this year. A lot of things have changed since England last played a Test match on Pakistan’s soil. To be precise, the last Test between the two nations in the Asian nation was in November-December 2005.
The home side won that match by a big margin of an innings and 100 runs. Mohammad Yousuf was the hero for the home team as he scored 223 runs in the first innings and helped the team score 636/8. Only three out of the 22 players from that game are yet to announce retirement, and here’s a list of those three names:
1. Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik
Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik opened the batting for the home team in that series. He got out for a six-ball duck as Matthew Hoggard took his wicket. Malik took a three-wicket haul in the first innings of England.
2. Pakistan wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal
Another veteran player to feature on the list is Kamran Akmal. The wicket-keeper batter smashed 154 runs off 242 balls in that game. He also took three catches behind the stumps.
3. Liam Plunkett
The only England player on this list is fast bowler Liam Plunkett. He scalped two wickets in that Test. Plunkett has left the United Kingdom, and now, he is set to represent the United States of America in the international arena.
