Taking back-to-back hat-tricks in international cricket is the dream of many bowlers. Some bowlers even dream to take just one hat-trick, which means that the bowler ends up taking three wickets in three consecutive deliveries.
It is difficult to do such a thing because the batters try to ensure that the team does not lose back-to-back wickets. At least on the hat-trick ball, most of the batters try to defend so that the team does not concede a hat-trick.
However, sometimes, the bowlers execute their plans as per the situation and force the batters to lose their wicket. There have been three such bowlers who have taken back-to-back hat-tricks in international cricket. Here’s a list of three such bowlers.
1. Pat Cummins took back-to-back hat-tricks in T20 World Cup 2024
Pat Cummins made history by becoming the first bowler to achieve this feat in the T20I format. The Australian fast bowler first took a hat-trick against Bangladesh by dismissing Towhid Hridoy, Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan off successive deliveries. Last night against Afghanistan, Cummins got rid of Karim Janat, Rashid Khan and Gulbadin Naib off back-to-back deliveries in his spell.
2. Wasim Akram
Wasim Akram is the only Asian bowler to feature on the list. The former Pakistan left-arm fast bowler took back-to-back hat-tricks in Test cricket in 1999. The opponent for Pakistan was Sri Lanka in those two Tests, which happened in the month of March in 1999.
3. Jimmy Matthews
While Wasim Akram and Pat Cummins took a hat-trick in back-to-back matches, Jimmy Matthews took a hat-trick in two innings of the same Test match. He played for Australia, and he achieved this feat against South Africa back in the year 1912.
