Virat Kohli has grabbed the headlines by taking his first wicket in the 2023 World Cup. Playing against the Netherlands in the 2023 World Cup group stage match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Kohli dismissed Netherlands captain Scott Edwards caught behind.
The right-arm medium pacer bowled a delivery down the leg-side. Edwards attempted to flick it towards the fine leg region, but the ball took the edge of his bat and went straight to wicket-keeper KL Rahul. 1. Virat Kohli dismissed Kane Williamson in 2008
Kohli and Williamson are among the oldest rivals in international cricket. Their first encounter happened in the semifinals of the 2008 U-19 World Cup, which was hosted by Malaysia. Kohli captained India U-19s, while Williamson led the New Zealand U-19s.
Williamson opened the batting and scored 37 runs off 79 balls. On the 80th ball of his inning, Kane was stumped by wicketkeeper Shreevats Goswami off Kohli’s bowling.
2. Alastair Cook
Sir Alastair Cook is one of the legends of the game. The former England captain scored heaps of runs in international cricket. He would always up his game when playing against the Indian team.
Back in 2011, when India played against England at Sophia Gardens, Kohli bowled six overs and dismissed Cook bowled out. It was his first-ever ODI wicket.
3. Kevin Pietersen
On the same tour of England, Kohli created a unique world record. He bowled on T20I debut and on the first ball, he delivered a wide. Kevin Pietersen missed the ball because it was wide, but wicketkeeper MS Dhoni dismissed him stumped out.
Kohli became the first cricketer to pick up a wicket on the 0th ball of his T20I career. It is one of the well-known records of the King.
