Indian squad: Rohit Sharma (C ), S Gill, Y Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, S Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Avesh Khan.

    1) No Ishan Kishan in the Indian squad for the England Test series

India selected Dhruv Jurel as the backup wicket-keeper for the first two games of the series. Not long ago, Ishan Kishan was the preferred choice as the wicket-keeper. Unless he has a fitness issue, this decision is a bit hard to understand. India might have needed a left-hander more in the middle-order. Also, Ishan could be the right guy to display some attacking cricket in the middle-order.

    2) Four pacers for a home Test series

Having four pacers in the squad for a home Test series is one of the strange decisions by BCCI in the Indian squad for the England Test series. India is likely to play only two pacers in the playing XI. In fact, it won’t be a surprise if they play just one. In this context, it is a surprise that along with Bumrah and Siraj, even Avesh and Mukesh have been selected. Considering the tournament is happening in India, if there was an injury, the management might have not needed a lot of time to call for a replacement.

    3) Avesh Khan selected ahead of Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna played both Tests in South Africa. Yes, he had a bad run but it is too early to drop him. He needs to be given more chances before the team moves on. However, Avesh Khan has been selected instead of Prasidh. This is a surprising move because it may not send the right signals to the players.
