The new ball is very important for the pacers. If they do not get it, they become less effective in the powerplay. However, a lot depends on the pitch conditions and the bowlers available, as well.
1) Chennai Super Kings
CSK has used this tactic in many games throughout the history of IPL. Especially when R Ashwin was in the squad back then, he was almost inevitably opening the bowling. Now that he is back on the side, CSK could use this tactic again, especially at home. Noor Ahmed and Ravindra Jadeja could take up matters in the middle overs and that could free up Ashwin.
2) Gujarat Titans could open the bowling with a spinner in IPL 2025
GT is one of the teams that could open the bowling with a spinner in IPL 2025. At venues which support spin, GT has the resources to operate with different strategies. Rashid Khan, Washington Sundar and R Sai Kishore can all open the bowling in the powerplay. Washi especially has the experience to do this. Hence, GT is on this list.
3) Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR has two good spinners who can bowl across conditions and in any situation of the game. They are attacking cards and if the situation demands early wickets or mandatory control of runs, KKR could use one of Sunil or Varun in the powerplay with the new ball.
