Chennai Super Kings will be defending their title in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. They won the previous season when they beat the Gujarat Titans in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium. It was the fifth IPL title, and they equalled Mumbai Indians with the most IPL championships.
CSK will look to win the trophy once again and continue their legacy as always. Chennai is probably the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League. They have some incredible records in the league that are impossible to break. Here we will talk about four unbreakable records for CSK in the IPL.
1. Lowest Total defended
A team can be successful when it has good bowlers and batters, and Chennai has always had this. They defended the lowest total in IPL history in a 20-over match. It was the game against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) when CSK made 116/9 in Durban during the 2009 season. But they restricted Punjab to 92/8 and won by 24 runs. Muttaih Muralitharan (2/8) and Ravi Ashwin (2/13) bowled brilliantly.
2. 10 Consecutive Playoffs Appearance
Chennai finished as runners-up in the inaugural season of the IPL after losing to RR. Since then, until 2019, CSK has made the playoffs in 10 consecutive seasons (excluding their suspension in 2016 and 2017). In this period, they won three seasons in 2010, 2011, and 2018 and finished runners-up in five seasons.
3. Never Finished at the Bottom
Chennai’s consistency shows that they have made the playoffs in 12 out of the 14 seasons they have played. However, one thing that sets them apart from other teams is that they have never finished a season at the bottom. All other teams that have played five or more seasons have finished at the bottom. MI finished last in 2022, but CSK hasn’t.
4. Most Appearance in the IPL Final
It is more incredible to know that CSK has played in most IPL finals so far in the tournament. They made the playoffs 14 times out of which they qualified for the finals ten times overall. CSK won five times and lost five times as well. Chennai’s 10 appearances in the final are equal to the combined scores of DC, PBKS, RCB, RR, KKR, and RCB. These five teams combined have played ten finals.
