ICC World Cup 2023 will begin on October 5 with a match between England and New Zealand. Eight teams, namely India, Australia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, England and Bangladesh, have already qualified for the 10-team event. Two other teams will be decided through the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.
10 teams, namely USA, UAE, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Oman, Nepal, Netherlands, Ireland, Scotland and Zimbabwe, will participate in this tournament. The top two teams from this competition will join the other eight teams in the mega event. While West Indies and Sri Lanka are the favorites to qualify, USA can spring a surprise as well.
If the United States of America make it to the mega event, the following four India-born players might play against India in Mumbai or Bengaluru.
1. Saurabh Netravalkar may play in ICC World Cup 2023
All-rounder Saurabh Netravalkar was born in Mumbai. He has captained the USA team in the past and now plays as a player. He is an all-rounder, who bowls left-arm pace. Netravalkar played for India in U-19 World Cup 2010.
2. Monank Patel may captain USA in ICC World Cup 2023
Gujarat-born player Monank Patel has an opportunity to make history this year. If he leads America to the World Cup main event, he will become the first player to lead USA in a match against India. Patel is a wicket-keeper batter who generally bats at the top of the order.
3. Sushant Modani
Maharashtra-born batter Sushant Modani also plays for the United States of America. Modani has played 25 ODI matches in his career and scored one century. It will be interesting to see if he can take USA to the WC 2023.
4. Nisarg Patel
Another Gujarat-born cricketer to feature on this list is Nisarg Patel. The Ahmedabad-based player is a right-handed batter and a slow left-arm spin bowler. Patel has taken 40 wickets in 36 matches for the USA team in ODI cricket.
