Shreyas Iyer has become one of the main batters of the Indian cricket team across all three formats now. The right-handed batter has made a name for himself with his consistent performances at the international level. He is also the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the IPL.
Not many fans would know that Iyer played for India in U19 World Cup 2014, where they finished fifth. Even current Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was a member of that squad. While Iyer and Samson have made it big, here’s a list of four such members of the India U19 squad of 2014, who have disappeared now.
1. Monu Kumar played with Shreyas Iyer in U19 World Cup 2014
Monu Kumar won the IPL 2018 championship with Chennai Super Kings. He made his IPL debut in 2020 after being benched for 43 matches. The right-arm pacer has been away from the league since then, but he continues to play domestic cricket for Jharkhand.
2. Ankush Bains played with Shreyas Iyer in U19 World Cup 2014
Wicketkeeper batter Ankush Bains was also a part of that squad in 2014. Bains has been a part of four IPL franchises, namely RR, CSK, RPS and DC, but his career never took off. He plays domestic cricket for Himachal Pradesh now.
3. Akhil Herwadkar
Sangli-based batter Akhil Herwadkar was present in the 2014 U19 WC squad as an opening batter. Akhil earned an IPL deal from Delhi, but he could not make it big. He played his last domestic match for Chattisgarh in the year 2022.
4. Aamir Gani
Aamir Gani is a right-arm off-spinner, who can also contribute his bit in the batting department. The bowling all-rounder has not played any competitive cricket in the last three years. His previous appearance came for Kolkata Heroes in Bengal T20 Challenge 2021.
