ODI and T20I are two different formats. However, most teams have the same skipper. That said, teams are slowly creating a clear distinction between the two white-ball formats. This could be further distinct in the 2024 T20 World Cup when it comes to the selection of teams.

    1) Hashmatullah Shahidi may not be picked for 2024 T20 World Cup

Hashmatullah Shahidi is one of the ODI World Cup captains who may not be picked for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Afghanistan skipper did a fine job leading his team to some important wins. However, he is not a regular in the T20I squad. Since last year, he has not played any T20I. Therefore, he might miss out on the next ICC event.

    2) Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has not played a T20I for a while now. It is clear that the Indian management might not consider the legend for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The likes of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal might open the batting while Hardik Pandya could lead the squad. However, considering his current form, it is worth a shot at selecting Rohit.

    3) Dasun Shanaka (Assuming ICC lift its ban on Sri Lanka)

Kusal Mendis replaced Dasun Shanaka as the skipper after the latter was ruled out. Firstly, ICC must lift its ban on Sri Lanka and then, if the team qualifies, it will be interesting to see who will captain the squad. In fact, Dasun Shanaka might struggle to get a chance in the playing XI, mainly due to his recent form. Hence, he might altogether miss out on the squad.

    4) Temba Bavuma

Temba Bavuma is also one of the ODI World Cup captains who may not be picked for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Aiden Markram is the current skipper of South Africa in the T20I format. Hence, Bavuma has very little chance of making it to the T20 World Cup squad. Preference could be given to someone like Dewald Brevis at the top of the order.
