IPL 2023 is still a few months away, but the organizers have asked the franchises to declare their list of released and retained players on November 15. Incidentally, the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will end on November 13. Even the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is underway right now.
So, all the franchises will have a clear idea about the current form of their players. The players who performed well in IPL 2022 do not need to worry about their place in the squad, but the players who had a bad IPL season need to prove themselves. Also, the players who were on the bench throughout the season or were injured have an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The following four players have almost guaranteed themselves an IPL 2023 contract by performing well in T20 World Cup 2022.
1. Sunrisers Hyderabad may retain Glenn Phillips for IPL 2023
Kiwi batter Glenn Phillips smashed the second hundred of T20 World Cup 2022 while playing against the Sri Lankan cricket team. He came in a tough situation and rescued his team. Phillips did not play any matches for SRH last season, but he is likely to be retained by the team now.
2. Lucknow Super Giants may retain Mark Wood for IPL 2023
Mark Wood received a contract from Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022, but he missed the season because of an injury. Wood has clocked 150kmph consistently in T20 World Cup 2022 and has also been amongst the wickets.
3. Aaron Finch
Australian skipper Aaron Finch has returned to form. He played a fantastic knock against India in T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up match and then smashed a match-winning fifty against Ireland. Kolkata Knight Riders may give him another chance.
4. Lungi Ngidi
South African speedster Lungi Ngidi was with the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022, but they did not utilize his services much. Ngidi is in top form in T20 World Cup 2022, which might compel DC to retain him.
