IPL Mega Auction will happen in 2025, and the last time it happened was in the year 2022. It was the tournament, where Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joined in for the first time. It saw many unexpected player changes, as a lot of names left the franchises they represented for many years.
It was an excellent chance for the players to earn big money. At the same time, it also turned out to be a miserable change for the following four names because their IPL journey derailed due to the change in franchise.
1. Devdutt Padikkal’s career has not been the same after IPL Mega Auction
Devdutt Padikkal was among the top performers for RCB in IPL 2020 and 2021. However, in 2022, he moved to RR, who pushed him to the middle-order. He is now at LSG, who use him as a number three batter, and his numbers have been quite disappointing.
2. Shardul Thakur’s career has not been the same after IPL Mega Auction
Shardul Thakur was a game-changer for CSK in IPL 2021. However, in 2022, he joined DC and then he was traded to KKR. Now, he is back at CSK, but his confidence and performance are not the same.
3. KS Bharat
Wicketkeeper KS Bharat emerged as a finisher for RCB in IPL 2021. He would have been retained if it wasn’t for the mega auction. In 2022, 2023 and 2024, he has been with DC, GT and KKR, but the opportunities and performances have not been up to the mark.
4. Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal was the ninth name on the Orange Cap list in IPL 2021. In 2022, he received PBKS’ captaincy as KL Rahul left. Captaincy hurt his personal performance. In 2023, he joined SRH, and in 2024, he has been benched by SRH now.
