The TATA IPL 2024 is very near the playoff stage. A couple of weeks ago, Rajasthan Royals were at the top of the points table with one foot in the playoffs. But since then, they have lost momentum. RR has lost three consecutive games now and still has 16 points.
Though they are certain of a place in the playoffs, they will be looking to break this losing streak because it can damage their confidence as well. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler will be leaving RR soon, so they will have to look for other options. Here we will talk about 3 things that RR needs to change before their next game against PBKS to get back on track.
1. Bring Tom Kohler-Cadmore in for Jos Buttler (Gone back to England)
The ECB has confirmed that the English players who are participating in the IPL 2024 will be leaving in a couple of days. Jos Buttler has also left the RR camp and will not make it to the next game on January 15, which RR will play against PBKS. Hence, RR needs to make sure that they can have someone who has some games under his belt before heading into the playoffs. So they should bring Tom Kohler-Cadmore to the top, replacing Buttler. Tom is also an English player, but he is not part of the T20 World Cup squad. He is an aggressive player and can be a good striker at the top.
2. Give Shimron Hetmyer chance to face more balls
Shimron Hetmyer is an aggressive batter who has won matches for RR with his explosive innings. But in the last few games, he has been getting very few deliveries to face or even not getting the chance to bat. Hence, RR needs to promote him up the order because if he can get set and play 5-6 overs, RR can add extra runs in the last overs.
3. Drop Avesh Khan and Pick Kuldeep Sen
Avesh Khan has looked toothless in the second half of the TATA IPL 2024. He has taken 4 wickets in the last five overs and given away runs of over 10 per over. It is looking like batters have channeled him now and are playing well against him. Hence, RR should bring back Kuldeep Sen, who took six wickets in the three games he played this season. He can bowl with new and old balls as well.
