IPL is the number one T20 league on earth, and it is the dream of every professional cricketer to participate in the tournament one day. However, not all players can earn contracts from IPL franchises. The T20 format demands the players to have more than one skill.
All-rounders are always in demand in the Indian Premier League because the captains do not want to give the full quota of overs to the bowlers who are having an off day. In the absence of all-rounders, sometimes even a specialist batter has been forced to bowl a few overs. Here’s a list of four players who you might not know have bowled an over in the league.
1. Suryakumar Yadav has bowled 4 overs in IPL
Suryakumar Yadav is world’s number one T20I batter right now. He bats in the middle-order for the Indian cricket team and the Mumbai Indians. Back in 2016, Yadav was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team. In KKR’s first match of 2016 against Delhi Daredevils, Yadav bowled three overs, conceding 21 runs. He also bowled one over against DC in 2014 season.
2. Shikhar Dhawan has taken 4 wickets in IPL
Not many cricket fans would know that opening batter Shikhar Dhawan has scalped four wickets in his Indian Premier League career. His first wicket was David Warner in 2011. He has also dismissed Sourav Ganguly, Shaun Marsh and Virender Sehwag.
3. Sachin Baby
Uncapped Indian batter Sachin Baby has taken two wickets in his Indian Premier League. He has only bowled 10 deliveries. In 2016, he returned with figures of 2/4 in 0.4 overs against Gujarat Lions.
4. Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar was in the final phase of his career during the Indian Premier League. He bowled a lot of overs for India in international cricket, but he only bowled 36 balls in the league. He ended up conceding 58 runs without taking any wickets in those six overs.
