However, whenever Dhoni has got into an argument with the umpires, he has always had the valid reasons to do so. Let’s talk about 4 instances where the umpires’ decision didn’t please Dhoni –

Once on India’s tour of South Africa, Simon Taufel warned Dhoni if his team committed the offense of slow over-rates again, he would be suspended for a Test match because he had already been warned for slow over-rate a few times in the past.

Dhoni told Taufel ‘that’s okay, I need a holiday, I would like to have a game off. But Sree is not playing this game so don’t worry,’. It was Sreesanth who used to take a lot of time to complete his overs.

In one of the Test matches India played on the tour of West Indies in 2011, Daryl Harper warned the Indian medium pacer Praveen Kumar for running in the danger area of the pitch a couple of times and then finally removed him from the attack for the rest of the innings.

Dhoni was not happy with that decision at all, as he thought Harper could have gone a little softer on Praveen who was playing his first Test match. A visibly irritated Dhoni told Harper, “We have had problems with you before, Daryl.” Daryl Harper was the same umpire who had given Sachin Tendulkar out leg before wicket when the ball had hit the batsman’s shoulder rather than his pads.
