IPL is the top T20 cricket league in the world, with players from several countries participating in this competition every year to test their skills. The cricketers often start training from a young age and work very hard to make it to the top level. However, not all cricket stars have had the same path to the top.
Some of the players also preferred to study first and then decided to take up cricket as a career. In fact, a few players who have participated in the Indian Premier League also hold an engineering degree. Here’s a list of five such players.
1. Sikandar Raza made his debut in IPL 2023
Pakistan-born Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikandar Raza turned for the Punjab Kings this year. He helped them win their match against CSK in Chennai. Not many fans would know that Raza has a bachelor’s degree in software engineering.
2. Akash Madhwal emerged as a star in IPL 2023
Akash Madhwal joined the Mumbai Indians as a replacement last season. Madhwal had his breakthrough season in 2023, where he emerged as a top wicket-taker for MI. He completed mechanical engineering before playing cricket.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
It is quite well-known that Ravichandran Ashwin holds an engineering degree to his name. The all-rounder has played for multiple franchises in the league, and he is currently a part of the Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin is an engineering graduate in IT.
4. Mitchell Santner
Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Mitchell Santner also holds an engineering degree. The all-rounder was a mechanical engineering student at the Waikato University in New Zealand.
5. Anil Kumble
Former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the initial seasons of the league. Kumble was also a mechanical engineering student and graduated from RV College.
