Kolkata Knight Riders will play against Punjab Kings in IPL 2024 tonight. It is the first meeting between the two teams this season, and the game will happen at the Eden Gardens. Both teams have a lot of history together as they have been a part of all the IPL seasons played so far.
In fact, KKR and PBKS also crossed paths in the IPL 2014 Final, where the Knight Riders won their last trophy. Unsurprisingly, there have been some common players in the two teams. Interestingly, the following four names were released by PBKS, but they became match-winners for KKR.
1. Kolkata Knight Riders finisher Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh has been a match-winner for KKR in the last three seasons. The team management of KKR has backed him a lot, and they have reaped rich rewards because of their decision. In 2017, Rinku was with Punjab but got released in one year.
2. Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun CV
Varun CV received a massive contract from Punjab in 2019, but they released him after just one season. KKR then snapped him up at the 2020 auction, and since then, he has been a fantastic performer for the Knight Riders.
3. Eoin Morgan
Former England captain Eoin Morgan was a member of the Punjab team in 2017 as well. Morgan then joined Kolkata and even became the team’s captain in 2021, leading the team to the final as well in the UAE.
4. Piyush Chawla
Another Indian spinner to feature on the list is Piyush Chawla. He was with Punjab from 2008 to 2013. In 2014, he moved to Kolkata, and in his first season itself, Chawla smacked the winning runs for KKR against Punjab in the final match.
