The T20 World Cup will start on October 17th. ICC will be hosting the event in UAE and Oman after a long gap of five years. Team India has already announced its squad but there are chances for it to be changed. In this article, we take a look at five Indian players who could still get a chance in the T20 WC squad.

The selectors had surprised many with their choices for the event. While they went with two left-arm spin-bowling all-rounders, most of the squad was picked based on conditions and not that much relevance was given to experience. Here is the team that has been selected for now:

Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ishan Kishan (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Mohd Shami.

1) Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the players who could still get a chance in the T20 WC squad. His omission was a shock to many in the first place. This is despite him doing well in IPL 2020 that was held in UAE. The RCB player is currently doing well in IPL 2021, as well. With him in the squad, the team can have an experienced professional on the pitch. He has also seemed to have improved on his variations in recent months. Hence, he could get a chance on the team. Axar Patel is one player who could make way for him.

2) Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is clearly looking better than Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the moment. However, it is Bhuvi who is in the main squad while Deepak is one of the standby players. If Deepak continues to do the good work that he is doing well, he could as well get a chance to feature in the Indian T20 WC squad.

3) Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has looked to be in good touch in IPL 2021 so far despite coming off an injury. If Ishan Kishan can’t do much to retain his place, his position in the team could be taken up by Iyer. Iyer is currently a part of the reserves. Especially if Suryakumar Yadav also has a poor run in the remaining games of IPL 2021, Iyer could come into the team as a backup for him.

4) Shikhar Dhawan

Orange Cap in IPL 2021 is currently held by Shikhar Dhawan. He also captained India in the Sri Lanka Tour recently. Yet, the selectors have gone past his name. Instead, Ishan Kishan has been selected. The youngster is in poor form in IPL. Unless he performs well in the remaining games, there is a high chance that he might have to give up his position in the squad.

5) Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur is one of the Indian players who could still get a chance in the T20 WC squad. If Hardik Pandya does not bowl in IPL 2021, his position in Team India could be in danger. Especially since his batting form is also poor, the selectors could as well drop him from the T20 WC squad. Shardul Thakur would then have his chance to be a part of the squad. He could slot in at No.7 and Ravindra Jadeja would move up the order. India would then have brilliant depth in the bowling department.
