It has been a year since India was handed a defeat in the 2023 World Cup final. However, that was one tournament which saw India rock and roll like none other. They were undefeated till the final only for Australia to crash their party in the summit clash.
The world witnessed a new format in the tournament as all teams played each other in round-robin format. This led to many players being given an opportunity. For India as well, there were quite a few players who played games in the tournament and then didn’t turn up for a single ODI game. Here are five Indian players who last featured in an ODI in the 2023 World Cup.
1. Ishan Kishan is yet to play an ODI for India after 2023 World Cup
Ishan Kishan has entered into rocky waters with the BCCI and it is still unclear when he will make a comeback to the Indian cricket team. He has struggled in recent times and will be hopeful of turning the tide around but since the World Cup, he hasn’t played a solitary ODI.
2. Suryakumar Yadav is yet to play an ODI for India after 2023 World Cup
Yadav was a part of the final of the 2023 World Cup and added 18 runs. However, since then he is still to get into the ODI side. He continues to lead the Indian team in T20Is but the longer formats haven’t been kind to him.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
There was lot of tension around the selection of Ravichandran Ashwin. However, the off-spinner didn’t make much hay in the tournament despite showing the early promise. His all-round flair for which he was chosen took the backstage.
4. Hardik Pandya
Pandya was slightly unfortunate. He had a great tournament until he was injured. It was his injury that introduced Mohammed Shami into the tournament and the rest they say is history. However, despite coming back from injury, he has played for Mumbai Indians, in fact led them while being a part of the T20Is while propelling India to utmost glory. However, ODIs haven’t come in his way.
5. Mohammed Shami
The 2023 World Cup final was his last ODI and since then he has been nursing his ankle injury. He finally made his return to competitive cricket, playing for Bengal in Ranji Trophy after more than a year. He has also been enlisted for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. However, there is a high possibility that he might leave for Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With that being said, ever since the final, he didn’t play a single ODI.
