The 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in October-November. The upcoming event will be happening after a gap of five years. However, the next edition of the T20 WC will take place in 2022 itself. In this article, we take a look at five performers from IPL 2021 who could be considered for the 2022 T20 WC.

The performers of IPL 2021 are yet to be tested. Hence, most of them are not participating in the 2021 T20 World Cup. That said, for the next event, a few of them will surely get a chance. The upcoming bilateral series will be important for them if they have to leave a mark.

1) Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is one of the five performers from IPL 2021 who could be considered for the 2022 T20 WC. Gaikwad won the Orange Cap after scoring 635 runs in 16 games. This is despite him being an uncapped player at the start of the season. Rutu has already made his debut for India and he will surely be part of the tournaments after the upcoming World Cup. With Shikhar Dhawan no longer being considered, Rutu can fight off competition from the likes of Prithvi Shaw to get selected to the 2022 World T20.

2) Venkatesh Iyer

Venkatesh Iyer belongs to the rare category of medium-pace bowling all-rounders in India. He did well in the UAE leg of IPL 2021. In fact, Iyer was one of the main reasons for KKR to reach the finals of the competition. He has also been drafted in as one of the net bowlers for Team India. Hence, he is likely to be picked for future tournaments, especially if Hardik Pandya does not bowl.

3) Avesh Khan

India’s bowling attack could go under a drastic change for the T20 WC in 2022. Both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami could miss out if they do not be at their best. India will look at Avesh Khan, who was the second-highest wicket-taker at IPL 2021. Avesh can bowl both at the death and in the power play. He could be the ideal partner for Jasprit Bumrah going forward.

4) Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel is not a young cricketer, and hence, his chances could be limited. However, having collected 32 wickets in IPL 2021, he surely deserves a chance. Harshal’s slower deliveries are difficult to read, and most of his wickets have come with this ball. The Haryana player is also a decent batsman at No.8 and for at least the 2022 T20 WC, he could be under consideration.

5) Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj is one of the most improved T20 cricketers in recent times. The Hyderabad pacer did not collect too many wickets in IPL 2021, but he did put up solid shows with the cherry. Especially at the death, Siraj was sensational with his yorkers and variations. He has already seen success in Australia, and hence, the selectors could consider him for the event. Siraj will have to repeat the performances in IPL 2022 to guarantee a spot.
