Many fans have lauded the CSK franchise because they back the players and give them opportunities to prove themselves. However, not every player got a long rope from the Chennai team. Here are seven players which Chennai should have never released.

    1. CSK should not have released R Ashwin

R Ashwin played for Chennai till 2015. Before the 2018 season, Chennai had an option of retaining him after returning to the league after a two-year suspension. However, Chennai did not do so.

    3. CSK should not have released Faf du Plessis

South African batter Faf du Plessis has been one of the biggest match-winners for Chennai. However, the team let go of him ahead of IPL 2021, and then, he joined RCB.

    4. Chris Morris

Another South African star to feature on the list is Chris Morris. He made his IPL debut for Chennai in 2013 and then became one of the top T20 players on earth. However, Chennai released him before the 2014 season itself.

    5. Jason Holder

Caribbean all-rounder Jason Holder is another player like Chris Morris who earned a contract from the Chennai-based IPL franchise quite early in his career. The Chennai team has always had a soft corner for all-rounders, but they did not give a long rope to Holder as he was back in the auction pool after the 2013 season.
