IPL 2024 Auction is all set to happen on December 19 in Dubai, and as always, more than a thousand players have shown interest in becoming a part of the auction. 10 teams will participate in the auction, with 77 slots open to be filled up in the squads.
Not all players who have registered for the auction will be sold at the auction. The IPL Governing Council allows the players to set their own base price, with the maximum one being 2 crore. Here are five players from the highest base price category who might go unsold.
1. Angelo Mathews might go unsold at IPL 2024 Auction
Veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has surprisingly set his base price to 2 crore. The former Pune Warriors captain is unlikely to return with a contract from the auction, which happens in Dubai.
2. Kedar Jadhav is likely to go unsold at IPL 2024 Auction
Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Kedar Jadhav has also decided to set his base price at 2 crore INR. Jadhav, who works as a commentator for JioCinema, joined RCB as a replacement in the 2023 season.
3. Tom Banton
England opener Tom Banton was hyped a lot before the IPL 2020 Auction. However, he flopped while playing for KKR and has not returned to IPL ever since. With his base price being 2 crore, no team might sign him in 2024.
4. Jamie Overton
Banton’s England teammate Jamie Overton has also set his base price at 2 crore. In a league where some big names go unsold, Overton has shockingly opted for a base price of 2 crore.
5. Ben Duckett
Another England cricketer who has opted for the highest base price without any IPL experience is Ben Duckett. Ben is in the 2 crore category, and he might not make it to the final list as well.
