T20 World Cup 2022 was a decent tournament for Team India. The Men in Blue excelled in conditions in Australia and played the semifinal against England, where they lost by 10 wickets. En route to the semifinals, the Indian team defeated Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.
Rohit Sharma led an Indian side for the first time in an ICC T20 World Cup in 2022. Now, in 2024, Sharma is back as the skipper of the Indian T20I team, and he will likely lead the team in the T20 WC as well. Big names like Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh will likely continue playing for the nation in T20 WC 2024 as well. However, here’s a list of five players from that squad who might miss out this year.
1. Dinesh Karthik played in T20 World Cup 2022
Veteran wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik made his comeback to India’s T20I team in 2022 and played in the T20 WC. However, his performance was not good, and he was dropped immediately.
2. Deepak Hooda played in T20 World Cup 2022
Deepak Hooda was once touted to take the number three spot from Virat Kohli. However, due to his inconsistency, Hooda was dropped last year. He also had an ordinary IPL 2023 with Lucknow Super Giants.
3. Ravichandran Ashwin
Considering the rise of Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav in the T20I format, India may not recall Ravichandran Ashwin for an ICC event this year. Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel can be the other spinners.
4. Harshal Patel
Harshal Patel was one of the top death bowlers in India during the 2022 T20 WC. The right-arm pacer is nowhere near the Indian team now.
5. Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Considering how Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been performing, it is highly unlikely that Bhuvneshwar Kumar will return to the T20I team. Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar are the other pacers.
