Spinners will have their hands full during a bowling inning. Hence, they are usually not given the captaincy task. That said, some have taken leadership roles in recent times.
1) Imran Tahir – Guyana Amazon Warriors
Imran Tahir is one of the popular franchises that currently have a spinner as the captain. It was a dream run for 44-year-old Imran Tahir as the captain of the Amazon Warriors in CPL. Not many expected him to do well but the South African spinner not only did well with the ball but also led the team to win the title.
2) Rashid Khan – MI Cape Town
Of course, Rashid Khan is a well-known name in this regard. After the disappointing show in the first edition of SA20, it needs to be seen if MI Cape Town will back the Afghan cricketer.
3) Sunil Narine – Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and LA Knight Riders
The Knight Riders group are also part of this list of popular franchises that currently have a spinner as the captain. Sunil Narine has been the Knight Riders for a long time now. He is getting opportunities as a captain but is yet to pay back the faith.
4) Keshav Maharaj – Durban Super Giants
Recently, DSG announced that Quinton de Kock will be replaced by Keshav Maharaj as the skipper of the franchise. Keshav has done the job for South Africa before. It needs to be seen how the team will perform in SA20 2024.
5) Wanindu Hasaranga – B-Love Kandy
B-Love Kandy is one of the popular franchises that currently have a spinner as the captain. Hasaranga is not exactly a pure spinner. He is more of an all-rounder. However, apart from LPL, other tournaments use him mostly as a spinner. He recently won the tournament as the captain of B-Love Kandy.
