    Commonwealth Games is underway right now, and for the first time in a long time, cricket is a part of the games. Women’s cricket is one of the games at this year’s CWG which is happening in England. The Indian women’s cricket team is one of the participants in the tournament, with all-rounder Harmanpreet Kaur being the captain of the team.

    Not many fans would know that the Commonwealth Games of 1998 featured a men’s cricket tournament. 16 teams from across the world participated in the competition, with South Africa winning the gold medal. Australia took the silver medal home, while New Zealand emerged as the bronze medalists.

    Some legends of the game played in that tournament, but the following well-known superstars returned home without any medals.

    1. Sachin Tendulkar, India

    India was in Group B of the tournament. Australia topped their group, while India finished in the third place. God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar was also a part of the Indian squad in that mega event.

    2. Anil Kumble, India

    Former Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble was the vice-captain of the Indian cricket team in the 1998 Commonwealth Games which happened in Malaysia. He was the deputy to Ajay Jadeja. India won only one out of three matches in the tournament.

    3. VVS Laxman, India

    One of the most reliable batters in Indian cricket history, VVS Laxman was also a part of the squad that visited Malaysia for the games in 1998. Unfortunately, Laxman and co. could not help the country win a medal in that event.

    4. Shoaib Akhtar, Pakistan

    The Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar represented the Pakistan cricket team in the 1998 CWG. Pakistan finished second in Group D, with one win in three matches. New Zealand topped that group and qualified for the semifinals.

    5. Curtly Ambrose, Antigua and Barbuda

    Legendary Caribbean pacer Curtly Ambrose was a member of the Antigua and Barbuda team in the 1998 CWG. His team finished second in Group B behind Australia.
