All-rounders play an important role in a cricket team. They have a huge say in all formats of the game. However, Team India has struggled in this department in recent years. Barring the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya, Team India has not enjoyed much success in the all-round department in recent years. Of course, this department is seeing new and promising faces now. We take a look at a few players who won the best all-rounder award by BCCI in the last couple of years.

    1) Jalaj Saxena

Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder in Ranji Trophy (2017/18, 2015/16 and 2014/15)

Jalaj Saxena is one of the players who have won the “Best All-Rounder” Award in domestic competitions by BCCI in recent years. Not once or twice, Jalaj has won the award thrice in the red-ball format. Yet, Jalaj is yet to get a go with Team India. The main reason is of course Ashwin, who is just undroppable. When he was unavailable, India picked Jayant Yadav. Hence, Jalaj has never got a chance to play for India.

    2) Parvez Rasool

Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder in Ranji Trophy (2016/17 and 2013/14)

Parvez Rasool also enjoyed a fine stint a couple of season ago. He even got a chance to play for India. However, the Jammu & Kashmir all-rounder could not cement his place with consistent performances. At domestic level, he lost form at the wrong time. Therefore, he could never return back to Team India.

    3) Krunal Pandya

Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder in limited-overs tournaments (2016/17)

Krunal Pandya is also one of the cricketers who have won the “Best All-Rounder” Award in domestic competitions by BCCI in recent years. The Baroda all-rounder, though, followed it up with regular impressive performances in IPL. Hence, he got a chance to play for India. However, he has not been able to cement his spot.

    4) Axar Patel

Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder in limited-overs tournaments (2015/16)

Axar Patel is one of the prominent all-rounders playing for Team India at the moment. However, he is yet to put up a defining show with the willow so far. That is very much necessary if Axar has to stay in the squad. Ravindra Jadeja is the superior player to Axar at the moment and will be the preferred pick.

    5) Deepak Hooda

Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder in limited-overs tournaments (2014/15)

Deepak Hooda has also won this award in the past. When he was in the U19 squad, many predicted Deepak to have a bright future. However, he has found it hard to make it count. Nevertheless, he is back to form now. If he has a good IPL, a chance with Team India looks possible.

    6) R Vinay Kumar

Lala Amarnath Award for best all-rounder in limited-overs tournaments (2013/14)

It is interesting that Vinay Kumar has also won this award. This is because at IPL or for Team India, Vinay was not known for his batting skills. However, if you dig into his records, you can see that Vinay has been a consistent performer with the bat for Karnataka. Hence, him winning this award is not a surprise.
