Official: MS Dhoni is to be awarded with Padma Bhushan award!

MS Dhoni is to be honoured by the Padma Bhushan award from the government of India. He has already been nominated for this award last year. Also, he becomes the 11th Indian cricketer to get this third highest civilian honour. Dhoni even holds the prestigious Arjuna, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna and the Padma Shri award.

Unanimous decision by the BCCI

BCCI President CK Khanna

Last year the BCCI decided to nominate him for this award. The BCCI acting president CK Khanna said that it was a unanimous decision by the board members in nominating him for this award. He also credited him as the most appropriate recipient of this award.

“This is a unanimous decision by the members. He has been one of the greatest names in contemporary cricket and the most appropriate choice of the Indian cricket board,”

The only nominated player by BCCI

While fans were curious to know about the extention of this list, the BCCI gave a surprise. It said that, there is no one better than him who could’ve been nominated for this award. It also stated that,

“He is one of our greatest ODI cricketer with nearly 10,000 runs in ODIs. Not many players have played 90 Test matches”.

With these statements, it was clear that he was the only one to be honoured by Padma Bhushan this year.

Another feather in his cap

This man has already received many awards, and this one will be adding another feather to his cap. He is the only cricketer to be awarded by the ICC ODI Cricketer of the year twice in a row (2008 and 2009). Added to this, he has also been honoured by the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2007 and the Padma Shri award in2009. In this, the Padma Shri award is the fourth highest civilian honour in India.
