The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today, on the 21st February, announced the full fixture for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 to be held in Australia.
And just like the last edition in 2021, Team India will face Pakistan in their opening match of the competition on the 23rd of October.
The T20 World Cup 2022 will be played from the 16th of October till the 13th of November. The competition’s Group Stage will kick-off with match between Sri Lanka and Namibia, while the Super 12 round will kick-start with finalists from the T20 World Cup 2021, Australia and New Zealand.
T20 World Cup 2022 will be contested by a total of 16 teams across 45 matches, and will be hosted by Australia, who were originally scheduled to hold the 2021 edition while India would have hold the 2020 edition, but all the plans got postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Team India had a forgettable campaign in the 2021 T20 World Cup, losing to Pakistan and New Zealand, and eventually not making it to the semi-final of the competition.
And thus, it might be a road to redemption for India, the team to have won the first T20 World Cup in 2007, under MS Dhoni.
Team India have been placed in Group B along with arch-rival and neighbours Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa and the winner of Group B and the runner-up of Group A.
India will kick-start their campaign from the 23rd of October against Pakistan and then will face Group A runner-up on the 27th October, followed by South Africa on the 30th of October and Bangladesh on the 2nd of November.
India will wrap-off their Super 12 round by facing the winner of the Group B on the 6th November. Semi-Finals will be played on the 9th and 10th November, while the Final will be on the 13th November.
