Former Indian cricket team star Sreesanth has announced that he will now focus on his acting career after retiring from all formats of Indian cricket. The express pace bowler from Kerala called it a day on his domestic career earlier this month. He informed the fans about his big decision with a series of tweets.

Many members of the cricket universe would remember that Sreesanth won the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup with the Indian team. However, his career went off the track after the BCCI banned him for his alleged involvement in a fixing scandal. Initially, it was a lifetime ban, but it was reduced to seven years, and it ended in 2020.

Once the ban ended, the fast bowler returned to domestic cricket and played a few games for the Kerala cricket team. He even registered himself for the IPL Auction. He was shortlisted for this year’s mega auction but ended up going unsold. In an interview with Manorama, Sreesanth shared his post-retirement plans and said:

“I am open to playing franchise-based leagues across the world. I have received some coaching offers too. Also, I want to focus on my film career. My first movie in Tamil will hit the screens in April. I have already acted in a Kannada movie called Kempegowda 2.”

Sreesanth wanted a farewell match but did not receive one

In the same interview, the former Indian team star revealed that he asked the Kerala Cricket Association to let him play his farewell match against Gujarat in Ranji Trophy 2022. However, the board denied his request.

The 39-year-old speedster’s last match came against Meghalaya, where he picked up two wickets in the first innings. He is unlikely to play red-ball cricket again, but it is likely that we may see Sreesanth playing in overseas T20 leagues soon.
