Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming gave his opinion on why his team could not qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2022. Ahead of the mega auction, CSK retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad. They named Jadeja as their new captain, but the all-rounder could not impress much.

Soon after, Jadeja handed the reins of the team back to MS Dhoni. However, the Chennai Super Kings could not gain any momentum. They managed only four wins from 14 matches and finished in the bottom half of the points table. For the first time in IPL history, CSK failed to qualify for the playoffs in a competition that was hosted by India.

Last night, the Chennai Super Kings played their 14th league stage match against the Rajasthan Royals. CSK fans would have hoped that their team finishes off with a win, but RR defeated the Super Kings by five wickets. Speaking at the post-match press conference, coach Stephen Fleming reflected on the team’s poor season and said:

“We had opportunities. There’s no doubt we had opportunities to do better than what we did. But the reality is we weren’t good enough to make the semi-finals this year, and that’s always a catalyst for next year.”

Stephen Fleming says the Chennai Super Kings had a slow start to IPL 2022

The Chennai Super Kings head coach further added that the team’s slow start impacted them a lot. CSK lost their first four matches and did not recover after that. Here’s what Fleming added:

“We had a slow start and we just weren’t able to string enough games together.”

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will play for the franchise even in IPL 2023. CSK are famous for their comeback, and they could make another strong comeback in 2023.
