Former South African cricket team wicket-keeper batter Morne van Wyk has opined that Faf du Plessis may never play international cricket again. The former South African cricket team skipper has not played international cricket for South Africa since April 2021. He is ready to play for the country, but the selectors have ignored him.

In one of his old interviews, Faf du Plessis said that Cricket South Africa expects the players to be available throughout the year for all their international matches. But du Plessis thinks it is not practically possible because many overseas players participate in T20 leagues happening across the planet.

When asked about his thoughts on Faf making a return to the national team, Morne van Wyk told Sportskeeda:

“Faf is a great player, but where will South Africa play him? You can’t have him open the batting because Temba Bavuma is doing that. You might consider bringing him in for Rassie van der Dussen, but Rassie has been pretty consistent. I think Faf is now a closed chapter for Cricket South Africa and vice-versa.”

Morne van Wyk named 1 player who could return to the South African squad soon

While van Wyk felt that Faf du Plessis may never don the South African cricket team’s jersey again in his career, he mentioned that Rilee Rossouw could make a comeback. Rossouw had been away from the international arena because of his county deal, but he is available for selection.

Wayne Parnell made a return to the South African T20I cricket team after a gap of many years in the ongoing T20I series against the Indian cricket team. It will be interesting to see if Rossouw makes his comeback in the near future. The reason why van Wyk feels Rossouw could return is that he has scored runs in T20 leagues across the world.
