An English all-rounder has expressed his intention to be a like for like replacement for the most recently and shockingly announced retirement of Ben Stokes, who announced his retirement from ODI cricket to further focus on T20Is and Tests for England.
Ben Stokes gave everyone a massive surprise and shock as the England Test captain announced his decision to retire from the ODI cricket to further focus on T20Is and Test cricket. He announced the decision prior to the 1st ODI against South Africa.
“I will play my last game for England in ODI cricket on Tuesday in Durham. I have decided to retire from this format,” Stokes said in the official press release announcing of his decision.
Recently, young England all-rounder Sam Curran has made his intention clear of being the replacement of Ben Stokes. English web portal Dailymail quoted Sam Curran of saying, “I’ve always looked up to Stokesy as a cricketer. I almost want to try to copy him.”
“I’ve always tried to follow the way he trains and the way he plays,” said Curran after the 2nd ODI against South Africa.
Sam Curran delivered to what he said and performed excellently in the 2nd ODI against South Africa as he was named the Man of the Match. With the bat, Curran played an aggresive inning of 35 runs from 18 balls with a strike rate of 194.44. He took 1 wicket with the ball, giving away only 5 runs in his 2 overs as England dismissed South Africa for just 83 runs to equal the 3 match series 1-1.
