Coming to the recent Ashes, it was known that England would struggle. However, having talented players such as Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and James Anderson in the squad, it was expected that they would at least put up a fight. However, that was not to be. Although the bowling was slightly better than the batting department, the overall display was disappointing. The backroom staff hardly made any impactful changes. A few of their tactics were also debatable. The England Test team’s next assignment will be in March in West Indies. Some massive changes are expected in that squad for that series.
Nasser Hussain picks England’s next cricket coach
Meanwhile, while speaking on SportMail, Nasser Hussain opined that Chris Silverwood must be sacked. He said, “You can’t take the same management team to the Caribbean and tell them to carry on as if nothing has happened. With a heavy heart I say move away from Silverwood.”
Nasser also had an option in mind as Silverwood’s replacement. He told, “An alternative? I like Ricky Ponting. Everything I see about him impresses me. He might not have a lot of international coaching experience but he’s got a great cricket brain. There are a few out there — unfortunately, not many of them English.”
Ricky Ponting is from Australia, one of the primary arch-rivals for England. It was surprising that Nasser took Ricky’s name. Ponting currently is the Head Coach of Delhi Capitals in IPL.
