Michael Clarke wants Team India to back young cricketer

Clarke said that Team India must trust in Prithvi Shaw. He said, “He is a terrific player like Sehwag. Sehwag was a genius, who took the game forward. For someone like me, I love that brand of cricket. That aggressive batsman at the top of the order. That’s why Sehwag was one of my favourite players. I would like to see India keep faith in him, a player like Prithvi Shaw, knowing he is young.”

In the interview, Clarke also said that Shaw got only one chance when India toured Australia. Although he failed, Clarke felt he would have come good in the later games.

Prithvi Shaw has tough competition for the opener’s spot

However, Prithvi Shaw has a tough situation if he has to find a spot in the playing XI. At the moment, the Mumbai cricketer is not even getting a chance in the main squad. The likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan are playing in limited-overs cricket while there is also competition from Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill in Tests. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been in top form, is the player who is getting picked as the reserve for ODI and T20I competitions. The likes of Ishan Kishan are also waiting for their chances. Hence, Shaw has to do a good job at IPL and domestic level to get a spot in the playing XI.
