“It has been an incredible journey, but I have decided to retire from all cricket. Ever since the back yard matches with my older brothers, I have played the game with pure enjoyment and unbridled enthusiasm. Now, at the age of 37, that flame no longer burns so brightly.”

In the long thread of tweets, AB de Villiers also expressed his gratitude to his teammates, fans, support staff members, coaches and cricket boards. He added that he was looking forward to the next innings of his life along with his family. He made the same post on his Instagram account as well, where his former South African teammate and long-time friend Faf du Plessis commented:

The Royal Challengers Bangalore signed AB de Villiers back in 2011, and he played for the franchise for ten years. Unfortunately, the world will not be able to witness Mr. 360 batting in the middle once again.
