The whole cricketing world is buzzing after the Indian cricket team’s star batter Virat Kohli completed his record equalling 49th ODI Century to now stand in the same podium as the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar.
The 5th of November 2023 turned out to be pretty special for the Indian cricket team’s superstar batter Virat Kohli, for not only because it was his 35th birthday, but also that on this same day, Virat Kohli, the jersey number 18, has reached the same milestone of 49 ODI centuries in his career so far, the record that was being held by Sachin Tendulkar.
The moment came during the India vs South Africa ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first. Both Sharma and Shubman Gill gave Team India a flying start as both added 62 runs in just 5.5 overs before the Indian captain was dismissed for 40 runs. Shubman Gill also departed soon.
But from there, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer formed a brilliant partnership that saved India from any kind of batting collapse. Shreyas unfortunately departed for 77 runs and he was accelerating the inning. But after Iyer departed, the Indian batters once again started to struggle as even set batter Virat Kohli found it difficult and slowed so that he doesn’t lose his wicket.
In the end, Virat Kohli completed his milestone century in the 48.3 over. It was quite imminent for any cricketing to see that Virat Kohli slowed down his inning’s pace. Meanwhile, cricket commentator and expert Aakash Chopra posted a cryptic post on his X handle where he without disclosing name, tried to target Virat Kohli.
In his post, he wrote “The obsession is unreal,” referring to Virat Kohli slowing down to complete his century. Through the word obsession, he very much pointed towards the 49th ODI century.
