The 16th edition of the Asia Cup began a couple of days ago, on August 30. The first game saw a brilliant performance from Pakistan, led by Babar Azam. Babar smashed a brilliant 151 in the first game against Nepal to kick off the tournament in grand fashion.
India and Pakistan will come up against each other on Saturday in Pallekele. It will be a contest between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam, two of the modern-day greats. It will be exciting to see who scores the most runs in the game.
But it is not just about the game; the big question will be who will end up scoring the most runs in the tournament. Will it be Virat or Babar? Former South African star AB de Villiers answers this question.
In a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, De Villiers named his favorites to pick the highest run-getter in the tournament. He picks both Kohli and Babar to score more runs. Babar has started the tournament with a big score, and now it’s Virat time.
De Villiers said, “My favorites for the Asia Cup are definitely Virat and Babar. I think we would see their names up there, and I would be pleasantly surprised to see someone else up there.”
Furthermore, he also praised Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi and said that he is a big player for his team. He started the tournament with two wickets against Nepal. However, the big match between India and Pakistan will take place on September 2.
Sri Lanka are the defending champion and started with a five-wicket win over Bangladesh. Six teams are part of the tournament, slotted in two groups of three. Two teams will qualify for the Super Four. The final will be played on September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
