Former Indian cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) assistant coach Abhishek Nayar commended KKR player Rinku Singh for his exceptional proficiency in finishing, acknowledging the southpaw’s crucial role in India’s two-wicket victory over Australia in the first T20I in Visakhapatnam on November 23. Rinku, remaining unbeaten with 22 runs off 14 balls, played a pivotal part in chasing down a target of 209 with one ball to spare.
Nayar applauded Rinku’s consistent display of character throughout his short career for India, noting that the left-hander exhibits the maturity of a player with extensive international experience.
Nayar boldly stated that India has discovered a new finisher in Rinku, succeeding the roles previously held by stalwarts like MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya.
Also during his appearance on post-match show, Abhishek Nayar revealed a backstory about Rinku Singh before the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.
In the post-match show on JioCinema, Abhishek Nayar revealed that Rinku Singh had called Abhishek and asked KKR to buy him back in the Auction, to which Abhishek replied to him that KKR is anyway not going to leave him.
“Rinku called me before the 2022 IPL auction and asked me to pick him up saying ‘iss saal main pakka achcha karunga bhaiya’, and I told him KKR isn’t leaving you anyways,” revealed Abhishek Nayar.
Following this win, India secured a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, with the second match scheduled for Sunday, November 26, at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.
